I am thinking of buying a new Pavilion 17" laptop (one of the 17-fxxx series). These appear to have a combined headphone/microphone socket.
Reading the User Guide off the HP website, it says that it necessary to use a 4-way connector to support both headphone and mic circuits. I'm not interested in using a mic and only want to use headphones. All my current headphones have the normal 3-way stereo jack connectors.
Does this mean that I have now to buy new headphoens with a different connector or get some sort of 3-way/4-way convertor? I've not come across 4-way jacks before. Or will my existing 3-way jacks still woprk OK just for headphones?
It's all very confusing - why can't we just stick to separate sockets :-)
