Can't get any sound--ATI HDMI High Definition Audio Driver Seems to be the Culprit?

I can't get any sound out of my (stock) HP Pavillion G4.  (well, except for a special case...)

How do I accomplish a complete delete and re-install of all of my sound drivers so that I can start from scratch and try to get my sound back???????  (and where do I get the update software for all three?)  It might also be my Registry file is corrupted, so how do I check (or reset) all those settings?

History:

I had been getting Windows 7 Blue Screens of Death (after a #$%&ing Skype 6.18 automatic update, which was absolutely proven to be the cause of the BSODs, btw) , so it was time for a complete, clean reinstall of Windows, including a complete hard-drive wipe.    After the re-install, initially, I had no problems.   Then, suddenly, after the bazillionth  @#$%^ Windows update, the sound stopped working.  It is also possible that, somehow, when I ran my Eusing Registry Cleaner, that some audio registry setting got fouled up.

When I go to Device Manager, I see three Sound items:  ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, and Cyberlink Webcam Virtual Driver.  However, when I use the SRS Audio Control Panel, the ATI HDMI control is greyed out, and I can't change it or access any control of it.  I tried to update the ATI driver, but it said it was up to date.  I tried to delete the ATI driver, and then when I ran 'Scan for Hardware" in Device Manager, it apparently saw the ATI hardware and brought the ATI driver back (version 7.11.0.7706, dated 5/6/2010).  When I go to the Sound Manager in the Control Panel, it says that the ATI HDMI Audio Output is "Not Plugged In".

The only way I can get any sound, which says that the hardware actually does work correctly, is to "Test" using the IDT device in Sound Manager (Playback)
