I have a Pavillion G6-2244sa, running Windows 8.
When I have the headphones plugged in, the sound will come out of both the speakers and the headphones. This should not be happening, obviously. Especially as I use my laptop for multi-track recording, this is not ideal (putting it mildly).
This literally started happening yesterday, for no apparent reason.
Steps I have taken so far to try to sort it:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers
- Fiddled pretty much every option in the audio menus
I've even gone and reverted the entire computer back to factory settings via the recovery partition, and the problem is persisting. This is making me think it's likely a hardware issue rather than a software one, but I want to be sure of this before taking steps towards a physical repair.
Speakers / headphones come under the same section of the playback devices menu. One post I had seen suggested that clicking mute on the volume mixer will mute the speakers, but allow playback through the headphones. This is not the case, and it muted the headphones too.
Further info:
Speakers / headphones is set as the default playback device.
The sound is working this way with every program
IDT High Definition Audio codec, driver version 6.10.6425.0
