Be it by direct physical damage or perhaps some internal hiccup, my audio input seems to be damaged to the point where it distorts the sound of what I play though headphones. I noticed this while listening to music on Youtube, I could hear most of the instrumentals just fine but the vocals were drowned. I thought this was odd, but thought it was just that video. However, after testing several different videos and applications, it became apparent that it was the pc not the applications. Some how, in some way, the damage is such that the sound of all vocals (I'm assuming some isolated point below or above a certain frequency ) is being distorted and that only by wiggling and fumbling around with the jack can I find the necessary sweet spot to make this thing sing and not for very long...tee hee.
Ahem, there is some minor superficial damage on the audio jack itself, a tiny piece of plastic forming the circular outer plastic coating broke off some time ago. But even after that, audio played fine and continued to play fine until around last week. I was wondering what repairs might be necessary to fix this or if repair is even possible without ripping it apart.
