Speakers are off if Speakers/HP disabled and Communications Headphones enabled

I am cannot seem to enable the speakers labelled Communications Headphone in Control Panel - Sound.  The

Playback devices are shown as Speakers/HP and Communications Headphones.  Both show IDT High Definition Audio

CODEC.  If I disable the Speakers/HP and default to Communications Headphones the speaker icon on the task bar

is turned off and indicates "No Audio Output Device is enabled".  My BIOS are up to date.  I downloaded and

installed the aplication IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver File version 4.0.100.1189. Product version

6.10.6425.0 REV: A.  Orignal filename stub 32i.exe.  The download file was SP59154 and is installed in the

C/SWSetup folder.

Reason I want to do this is that the stereo quality is very poor using Speaker/HP.  Testing via Control -

Sound Properties shows practically no stereo separation.  Testing Communications Headphones shows very good

separation but testing is about all I can manage.  I tried with and without connecting a headphone/mic. and

with different headphones.

Any help will be appreciated.
