Just bought a brand new hdmi cable to view programming on my large screen. When I plug the hdmi cable in the laptop and tv, I experience great quality video. But no sound. I read a lot about it to the extent where i replaced the driver NVIDIA as suggested but to no avail.
Issues is that I don't see a HDMI to select which I think is the obvious problem.
The closest thing I have is a SPDIF (Digital Out via HP Dock) IDT high definition audio CODEC that shows ready. and if a video or audio is played, you can actually see the vu meter going up and down, so that SPDIF is working
The other 2 selections are speakers and dual headphone and
Independant dual headphone
I should point out that the audio out of the laptop works great.

I did all I could and now I am in a loop with Hp so I must admit that I am beat (so far) I can use the video as is, but it would be much better to have the audio on the sound system.
Oh yes, it says that some software detect if the hdmi cable is plugged in, I tried every possible combination that I could think of with no avail. I also am NOT getting any error message.
