I have brought my old laptop back to life, but unfortunately there is no sound.
I have had to reinstall windows xp with the cd that came with the computer quite a few times and now it isn't updating through windows update. The computer is genuine and has the sticker still on the bottom of it. HP sent me this computer many many moons ago as a replacement for my own laptop which their authorised repairo shop killed. I have lost the driver's disc that came with it and I am having problms finding the driver online..(yes i have tried installing the audio drivers but no luck as the problem lies elsewhere) I want it to work for my kids who can watch youtube. Ii will soon give up on xp an d just instal ununtu or lubuntu...but would like to have xp as a backup...:) I have phoned microsoft in the past and sorted the windows out but it takes forever of waiting on the phone...:(.(if I have to I will do so...
any help as I don't really need updates or anything as long as the sound works they can watch youtube, sesame street etc.
i just want sound....and no i will never be updating the operating system to any thing above windows xp sp 2 (yeah i have a p2 service pack cd that windows sent to me..:)-remember when they did stuff like that?
And no i wont buy a new cd with the drivers from hp...the laptop is just way too old for that...
