I am the owner of a HP Pavillion G6 running 64 Bit Windows 7 with no audio through an HDMI cable to a TV. After checking for the presence of an appropriate audo controller among devices in control panel, compatible with the TV (AMD High Definition audio device seemed good) plugging in the HDMI and switching the HDMI output to default in sound, the issue occured: no sound. I began running an audio test and a variety of programs with audio, and there still seems to no audio under any circumstances on the Hitachi TV (although defaulting back to the computer and/or unplugging the cable returns sound to the computer). The system seems to believe that there is in fact audio playing, as fig1 shows (tried at various volumes to make sure it isn't a volume issue on the tv). One answer made mention to the handshake with the tv failing, which I don't understand.
Windows update revealed nothing, and my last forray into manual driver updates was...involved. I am running an AMD A6-3400M APU, and while my knowledge of APUs is predictably nil, some answers made mention to the manual activation of a part of the cpu for high definition processing and audio. Plugging in the computer didn't automatically do it, and AMD Vision engine control center (where I assume this is done manually) fails to open.
Note on the TV: Hitachi (newer model, although it has PC/DVI audio jack, which may imply it is simply incompatible with the HDMI audio.)
Thanks in advance, especially given the contrived nature of the problem and my utter inability to find a concise model number of anything.
