Hello,
I have found a thread on this topic for other HP laptops on the Support Forum and have tried some of the 'low level' solutions but without success.
Here's the problem:
I have a Compaq 615 notebook running Windows 7. When something is plugged into the headphones socket (e.g. external speakers or headphones) the sound volume is either extremely feint or zero with all the volume controls turned up to maximum. This applies whatever software is playing the sound file (e.g. Windows Media Player or Audacity or a DVD). However, the 'Test' sounds work ok in the headphones. The on-board computer speakers work ok too.
Going into Device Manager>Sound (etc)>IDT HD Audio CODEC - says it's up to date. Here's a screen shot of the panel:
I have downloaded the following from the HP site but haven't installed it as I wasn't sure if I should or how to (even after creating a restore point):
Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
