Hi there,
I have an HP Envy 6-1010ea laptop, operating system Windows 7. It's stopped playing sounds in my internet browsers - I thought it was just for videos but I just tested a couple of other things and it doesn't work for games either. Less than 10% of the time, it will work fine - the rest of the time no sound at all. This problem happens in Chrome and in Firefox - in Chrome the little audio signal on the right side of the tab is showing to indicate audio is playing, even though there is none.
edit: but then the audio on this page worked fine! It seems to be really sporadic!
another edit: I have been looking for solutions online and someone suggested loading Firefox in safe mode - I did this and the audio appears to be working ok. Does this suggest that it is an add on that's the problem? (If so no idea how to fix it) And it still doesn't work in Chrome.
No changes made to the system.
I've been having a cooling fan error message upon turning on the laptop recently, so I used a manual cooling fan as a temporary solution, but the error message has now stopped so I'm a bit confused about that - the sound problem began before I started getting the cooling fan error message though.
Really annoyed about this problem - can anyone help me out? Thanks.
