Headset plugged in, but sound comes from speakers AND headset

I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CT0 Entertainment Notebook PC currently running Windows 8.

I have had this problem for years, and fixed it before, but I have no idea how I fixed it last time. I recently put a new hard drive in my laptop, and now the sound problem is back, and I can not figure out how to fix this. I have literally tried a whole day looking up things I could try, and nothing so far has worked, if anyone could help me fix this problem, I would really appreciate it. I would LOVE for my headset to work so I don't have to go out and buy a USB headset. 

 

I have IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and beat audio, so I DO NOT have Realtek audio manager or anything like that.

 

My headset plugs into the headphone and microphone jacks.
