How to completely remove IDT Audio Codec from WinXP?

I have a Compaq Probook 6555b, and I would like this crappy audio device gone. I try removing the codec, and it keeps reinstalling it. Worse: Even after it's removed I can't register any other device as an audio device.

E.g. the ATI High Definition Audio Device. It's listed in device manager, and says it's working properly, but under sounds and audio I cannot select it as a playback device.

The IDT Audio server does nothing but use up 50% of my cpu, and otherwise just generally blows. I've tried uninstalling it and installing older versions from the hp product support page for my laptop. It does not work.

I would love it if HP would just release a tool to completely remove and blacklist this "device". Help greatly appreciated, since I can't play a good number of games I'd love to be playing right now because of this issue.
