My Laptop's volume is very low even at it's max setting. How do I fix this?

I have a Pavilion G6 with WIndows 7 and the driver is the IDT high definition codec, version 6.10.6423.0.   I've read that a possible fix is to use the loudness equilizer, but I don't have the enhancement tab when in the speakers and headphones properties menu.   Is there anything else I can do?
