hp mediasmart music

I feel really stupid but I can't create a CD from a playlist on HP MediaSmart on my HP Envy14 with Windows 8.

I can load the album of 14 tracks;  I can move the files from the large left window to the right Edit Playlist window;  I can save the playlist; but then when I click on "Create CD," the right window goes blank, and it says "Arrange songs to include in the burning." 

I can't do this.  I can't move songs from the left window to the right.  The bottom half of the right window has "Create CD" highlighted but, since I can't get anything into the upper half of the right window, the "Burn" button is grayed out.

What am I missing here?
