a couple of days ago my machine did an auto update like usual and things seemed fine, but shortly after I noticed that I had no sound or mic functions from my internal devices and the headset jack was also non-functional. the first thing I did was a restart, no luck. next I ran the troubleshooter and received the above msg. I did notice that while I had the sound device manager open that I did not have access to the "configure", "set default", and "properties" functions under the playback and recording tabs. after some further consideration I thought maybe I had a driver compatibility issue with the recent update but I'm not really sure what was updated. I also thought that I might have a usage conflict with an app hogging things even though I didn't see any unusual activity in the task manager. despite that I disabled the "ok google" function in chrome and restarted. that seemed to fix it as I had sound and mic back, but when I started up this morning I had the same issue and since I did not re-enable "ok google" and it did not auto start (I checked), that does not appear to have actually done anything after all or there are additional issues that are still unresolved.
anyway, I'm running Realtek HD Audio Driver ver 6.0.1.6937, I'm on a hardwired ethernet connection, I have not received any error msgs and I have not made any recent software changes.
FYI, I found one posting and related solution for what seemed to be a similar problem (see post titled "speakers and microphone NOT working, all devices said to be working" posted 2-26-2013 03:00 PM) but the driver referenced was an IDT Audio driver not a Realtek, not sure if the process is the same or not.
so, that's where I am. any help?
