hp envyproblem with soundcard after 8.1 update

Hello!!

So, I have an HP Envy laptop. I updated Windows to the 8.1, and spotify is now it's saying that I have problems with my soundcard. When I try to play any music on Windows Media PLayer, the error message says: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. 

Any suggestions on how to remedy this??
