New laptop. Purchased an audio splitter adapter for use with teh line-in jack on the left side. The headphone half of the splitter works fine. The microphone/line-in side does not. Plug in the splitter and in the device manager the setting for the jack changes from "not plugged in" to "ready". Connect a device to the microphone side of the jack, like an MP3 player (which is why I bought the adapter for), and the device icon in device manager changes from "ready" back to "not plugged in". I've been lead to suspect that this line-in jack is not stereo, but mono, which is useless to me. I've also seen some reports that possibly the jack is not compatible with certain 4-pin combo jacks? Anyone got a clue on this? I'd really like to be able to connect up my MP3 player so I can manage some audio files I have stored on it (through Audacity). Why HP would decide to combine input and output jacks as one jack is beyond stupid, if you ask me.
