A couple of months back my audio stopped working. I restored to an earlier state and fixed the issue. Problem returned a few days later, restored again OK. This happened several times until finally I couldn't restore again - all past restore points had vanished fromt he restore list!
Checked all the forums ... checked all possible settings, uninstalled/reinstalled the IDT audio drivers, etc., unistalled several microsoft updates (back to when the problem started (no luck), reinstalled all updates to bring current (still no luck) ... tested with external speakers and with bluetooth headset ... nothing works!
Some anomalies I've noticed as follows:
When testing (Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Advanced > test) I get and error = "Failed to play test tone"
Checking Services (Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services ...) I note that
... Audio Service = started = automatic
... Multimedia Class Scheduler = NOT started = automatic ....... I can start it from here, but still no sound ... when I restart the computer it is back to NOT started = automatic (can't understand why, if its set to "automatic", it doesn't automatically start on the restart?)
... Windows Audio = started = automatic
... Windows Audio Endpoint Builder = started = automatic
Also, I've found that when I tried to run a YouTube video, it runs for a few seconds (video only - no sound), then throws and error on a "static/fuzzy picture"
I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting and fixing these sorts of things, but this one has me baffled & frustrated ... can anyone help?
