Audio "line in" help needed

Hello Guys,

I have been using my desktop for recording music like guitar or keyboards by audacity software. I used to connect to line in to record it and it was quite simple.

Few days ago I bought Hp envy 15 j037tx ...... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03870918

I am using windows 8 currently and I would like to record my instruments like guitar or keyboards in my laptop (as I believe It has fine specification to record HD music or videos directly) . But the problem is there is only one jack.

Previously in my desktop (Gigabyte Motherboard) there were three input ports but any one of them could be used in three different ways (for example if I insert something in my blue jack there would be a pop up window to select whether I am going to use it as Line in, Line Out or headset and Microphone and same for other two).

Till now I am able to use the port input as Microphone(With a very much distorted sound!!) or headphone(line out) but I have no idea how to have line in connection from it!

So is there any simple way so that I can put some instruments and configure it as line in?? (Currently using BEATS AUDIO)
