Have HP Pavilion Dv6 notebook

About 2 weeks ago no sound. Speaker indicators show sound but neither computer speakers nor external headphones are able to get any sound.
Play music in Windows Meadia Player and again the Mixer shows sound indicated but no sound/music can be heard.
Sound Devices show no problems. Drivers say updated driver has been installed.
System shows updated as of today's date.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
