All that was wrong with my machine was the sound was not coming from internal speakers or headphones. Here is my horror story of trying to get it fixed.
A little over a week ago I sent my DV7 laptop into HP to have the sound fixed, apparently the sound ports had gone bad. Nothing else was wrong with the machine. I had worked with the chat technician for around 45 minutes, allowing him access to the computer and all he could find was that the sound ports hardware neeed replacing. Again, the machine was working beautifully except for the sound. After I got the box, I got it correctly packed and picked up by FedEx. After a week I get a call from support telling me there is water or liquid damage not covered by the warranty, do I want to pay $240 to get it repaired. I knew there had never been water damage to my machine. I argued with him and he came down fifty percent to $117. I was not happy. But later, when I got the pictures, I knew from the picture of the keyboard with water spots that it was not mine. I called back and this person allowed me to go up the ladder to the Escalation team. I was called back and the charge I paid with a credit card would either not be charged or reimbursed. I was happy about that until...
Until I got this note about the repair and the parts needed for repair
684125-001FAN - HEAT SINK
1 685445-001 SYSTEM BOARD
1 684559-001 TOP COVER - TOUCHPAD
699962-001 KEYBOARD
Had all these parts had been bad, I could not have continued to use my machine with no problems for 2 days, let alone allow a tech to enter my machine with the applet I installed to see the inside and control it. All that was wrong with the machine I sent in was sound. The machine they are saying is fixed is not mine. And, as I said, the picture of the water stained keyboard/ control pad almost looke photoshopped. That was not the machine I had put into the FedEx box a week before. Anyone ever heard of something like this? Again, this machine had no water damage ever while I had it. It was not until HP service got their hands on it was there anything like this.
And today I got my machine back. The only thing I wish is that the service department would take ownership of the water damage. But I will never get that satisfaction. But I must say, the escalation team is on the ball and will help you. Anyway, all my worry was for nothing. My machine is back and it is great. The only problem I really have is them telling me I did the water damage when I know I did not. It will forever be a mystery for me how it happened between my mailing it and them getting it in the repair center.
